Wrapped ETH on Avalanche is WETH.e, a token issued by the Avalanche Bridge when ETH or WETH moves from Ethereum, at the contract 0x49D5c2BdFfac6CE2BFdB6640F4F80f226bc10bAB on the C-Chain. Turning it into AVAX is a swap on an Avalanche DEX, and getting it in the first place is a bridge transfer that costs 0.025% of the amount, at least $3 (Avalanche support, January 28, 2026). The rule for the whole route: the bridge changes the network, the DEX changes the asset.
- Small next to mainnet: WETH.e reported a supply of 19,662 on October 11, 2026, against 2,173,369 WETH in WETH9 on Ethereum, about 0.9% of the mainnet figure (Avalanche and Ethereum RPC).
- Leaving costs more than arriving: the bridge charges 0.025% into Avalanche (min $3, max $250) and 0.1% out (min $12, max $1,000), four times the rate and four times the minimum.
- Gas comes with it: a transfer of $75 or more into Avalanche receives a small AVAX airdrop for the first swaps (Avalanche support).
- Check the last characters: the real WETH.e ends in ...0bAB; the address ...0bAA has no contract on Avalanche C-Chain.
What WETH.e Is
WETH.e is the Avalanche representation of ETH that the Avalanche Bridge holds on Ethereum. The contract names itself Wrapped Ether with the symbol WETH.e and 18 decimals; the “.e” suffix is the bridge’s marker for an asset that came from Ethereum, and it is removed when the asset goes back (Avalanche support, updated August 17, 2026).
WETH.e is a bridged token, not a WETH9 wrapper: there is no deposit() that turns AVAX into it, and its backing is the ETH the bridge holds on Ethereum. That is the difference between bridged and canonical WETH on the WETH contract address page, where WETH.e is the Avalanche row.
How to Get WETH.e on Avalanche
WETH.e arrives on Avalanche when you send ETH or WETH through the Avalanche Bridge from an Ethereum address you control. The bridge takes the asset on Ethereum and releases WETH.e to the same address on the Avalanche C-Chain.
- Hold ETH or WETH on Ethereum mainnet: the bridge transfer itself is an Ethereum transaction, so keep some ETH for its fee.
- Start the transfer in the Avalanche Bridge: choose ETH or WETH and the amount; the bridge fee is taken from the amount, 0.025% with a $3 minimum.
- Wait for the confirmations: about 20 minutes on Ethereum (96 confirmations), then a few seconds on Avalanche.
- Check the token on Avalanche: WETH.e at 0x49D5c2BdFfac6CE2BFdB6640F4F80f226bc10bAB, plus the AVAX airdrop if you sent $75 or more.
How to Swap Wrapped ETH to AVAX
Once WETH.e is on Avalanche, AVAX is one swap away on any Avalanche DEX that lists the pair. The swap is an Avalanche transaction, so its fee is paid in AVAX, which is what the bridge airdrop is for.
- Swap on Avalanche: sell WETH.e for AVAX at the pool price; approve WETH.e for the DEX the first time (WETH approvals).
- Cross-chain swap instead of a bridge: a cross-chain swap provider can take ETH on Ethereum and deliver AVAX on Avalanche in one flow, so you never hold WETH.e. Gem Wallet, for example, supports cross-chain swaps inside the app, which suits a one-off move from ETH to AVAX.
- Keep some AVAX: every later move of WETH.e on Avalanche also pays its fee in AVAX.
Avalanche Bridge Fees In and Out
The bridge fee depends on the direction and is taken from the asset you send. Figures are from Avalanche support, last updated January 28, 2026.
| Direction | Fee | Minimum | Maximum | What you receive |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ethereum to Avalanche | 0.025% of the amount | $3 | $250 | WETH.e on Avalanche C-Chain |
| Avalanche to Ethereum | 0.1% of the amount | $12 | $1,000 | ETH or WETH on Ethereum, “.e” removed |
The minimum dominates small transfers: $3 is 0.025% of $12,000, so any transfer below that pays more than the headline rate. Going back, the $12 minimum equals 0.1% of $12,000 as well.
What to Check Before You Bridge or Swap
- The address: compare the WETH.e contract with the table on the WETH contract address page; a token with the same name at another address is not WETH.e.
- The network in the wallet: WETH.e lives on the Avalanche C-Chain; a wallet set to Ethereum will not show it (WETH not showing).
- Fee asset per side: ETH pays the Ethereum side, AVAX pays everything on Avalanche.
- Exit path: bringing value back to Ethereum costs the 0.1% bridge fee with a $12 minimum, or a cross-chain swap at its own price.
For the other networks with their own WETH, see WETH on Base and WETH on Arbitrum; the WETH glossary defines bridged and canonical WETH.
