The WETH contract on Ethereum mainnet is 0xC02aaA39b223FE8D0A0e5C4F27eAD9083C756Cc2, and it reported a total supply of 2,173,369 WETH at block 26,165,957 on October 11, 2026 (Ethereum RPC). The rule that organizes this page: a WETH address is valid only on its own network, and the contract’s own name, symbol and decimals are the quickest check that you have the right one.

Key takeaways
  • One network, one address: WETH lives at a different contract on every network; only Base and Optimism share an address, 0x4200...0006, because both run the OP Stack.
  • Mainnet holds most of it: of 3,189,679 WETH-type tokens across the seven mainnets below on October 11, 2026, Ethereum's WETH9 held 2,173,369, or 68%.
  • Base is the largest L2 balance: 272,526 WETH on Base against 111,048 on Arbitrum One and 19,140 on Optimism on the same day, 2.5 times Arbitrum.
  • Not every "WETH" is named WETH: the BNB Chain contract calls itself Ethereum Token (ETH) and showed a supply of exactly 505,000.

Data source: public RPC endpoints of each network, contract calls on October 11, 2026. The same seven mainnet addresses are on the home page with copy buttons: WETH contract addresses.

Two rows break the pattern. The BNB Chain contract is not a WETH9 deployment and names itself ETH, so wallets on that network label it ETH. The Avalanche token carries the symbol WETH.e, the “.e” marking an asset bridged from Ethereum.

How to Verify a WETH Address Before You Send

A WETH address is verified when the explorer of that network shows verified source code and the contract reports the expected name, symbol and decimals. The check takes a minute and prevents the most expensive mistake on this page: sending to a token at the wrong address.

  1. Open the network’s own explorer: Etherscan for Ethereum, Basescan for Base, Arbiscan for Arbitrum, the Optimism and Polygon explorers, BscScan for BNB Chain, Snowtrace for Avalanche.
  2. Paste the address from the table above: the token page must show the name and symbol listed in the table and 18 decimals.
  3. Check the Contract tab: the source must be marked verified; on Ethereum mainnet the contract name is WETH9.
  4. Compare the supply with the table: the real contract reports a supply close to the figure above; a copy with the same name usually has a tiny supply and a handful of holders.

The same address on the wrong network is a different account. 0x4200…0006 is WETH on Base and on Optimism, but on Ethereum mainnet nothing useful lives there.

Why WETH Has a Different Address on Every Network

WETH has a different address on every network because each network deploys its own contract; there is no global token. Ethereum’s WETH9 was deployed in December 2017 at 0xC02a…56Cc2, and every chain that came later either deployed its own wrapper or received bridged WETH from a bridge.

  • Canonical wrappers: OP Stack networks such as Base and Optimism reserve 0x4200…0006 for WETH from their first block, and Arbitrum One and Polygon PoS each publish one standard WETH contract that apps on the network expect.
  • Bridged tokens: on BNB Chain and Avalanche the token is issued by a bridge and represents ETH locked elsewhere; its backing depends on that bridge, not on a WETH9 contract on the same chain.
  • Separate balances: WETH on Base and WETH on Ethereum are two balances even at the same wallet address. Moving between them takes a bridge, not a transfer. WETH on Base, WETH on Arbitrum.

WETH on Testnets

Testnet WETH is a separate contract with no market value, used to test apps before mainnet. On Sepolia, Ethereum’s main public testnet, the WETH contract is 0x7b79995e5f793A07Bc00c21412e50Ecae098E7f9; it reported a supply of 433,859 test WETH on October 11, 2026.

Test WETH is minted by wrapping test ETH from a faucet, exactly like mainnet WETH. It cannot be sold, bridged to mainnet or converted into real ETH, so an offer to buy or sell testnet WETH is not a trade in anything of value.

What to Do If WETH Does Not Show in Your Wallet

WETH that does not show in a wallet is usually on-chain and safe: the wallet is on another network or has not added the token. Switch the wallet to the network where you received the WETH, then add the token by its address from the table above.

  • Wrong network selected: a balance on Base is invisible while the wallet shows Ethereum mainnet.
  • Token not listed: add it manually by contract address; the name, symbol and decimals fill in from the contract.
  • Bridged token received: on BNB Chain the balance appears as ETH, not WETH.
